CHRISTMAS TREE SWITCH ON
Christmas is a BIG deal at our Workdry Head Office. We’re known locally
for the enormous Christmas Tree we have each year – which has been a
community staple for decades. Our local community get very animated
if we’re late with light switch on or if the tree appears any smaller than
previous years!
In recent years, the tree has been switched on without much fanfare, but this
year we decided to change that. Employees enjoyed hot drinks, mince pies,
and festive songs from the pupils of St Swithun Wells Catholic Primary School
before the countdown to the big switch-on.
The special guest was due to be 97-year-old Allan Bell, who was Selwood’s
fifth employee in the 1940s. Mr Bell recently visited the site to see how the
company had evolved.
Unfortunately, due to a fall, he was unable to attend the event in person.
However, the Selwood team ensured he could still participate by setting up a
video link so he could press the button to light up the tree.
“When I joined, the first thing I was told about was the
Christmas tree. I was also told that there hasn’t been a
switch-on event for the past 15 years or so – so this year
we wanted the tree to be bigger and better than ever”
- Dan Lee, CEO
Alongside this year’s Christmas Tree celebration we also hosted our annual
children’s Drawing Competition, supported the Giving Tree Appeal, provided
Christmas Dinners and Care Packages through the Saints Foundation, and
enjoyed supporting Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.
