Turning Waste Into Treasure
Our UK team of experts at our Equipment
Refurbishment Centre in Hixon have been taking
a deep dive into circularity.
As part of this we’ve reviewed fuel-handling
practices during pump refurbishment, where
fuel is routinely removed to enable safe working.
Historically, this fuel was often treated as waste
and sent for environmental disposal, even where
it remained suitable for use. In 2025 alone,
approximately 22,000 litres of fuel were removed
as waste, despite a significant proportion being
recoverable.
In response, we’re investing in improved fuel
handling controls, increased on-site storage and
high-volume fuel-polishing equipment, enabling

contaminants to be removed and fuel quality
assured before reuse. This improved approach
supports more circular use of resources, reduces
unnecessary waste and delivers an estimated
cost-avoidance of c.£40,000 per year, while
maintaining high safety and operational standards
aligned with The Workdry Group’s ESG objectives.
